When I was a young girl, I played with the boys. We played football in the park; we climbed trees; we ran races on the beach and surfed in the waves. Some people called me a ‘Tom Boy’. I didn’t really understand what that meant. I knew without any doubt that I was a girl. The boys I played with knew they were boys. They were stronger and faster than I was. That was just a fact.

I realize that the world in which I was a child during the late 60s and 70s is vastly different from the world today. I believe, though, that our children deserve to enjoy the innocence of childhood and the protection of the adults, their parents, who shoulder that responsibility. For that reason, I am happy to see two organizations launching initiatives aimed at protecting the innocence of children and the rights of parents to protect their children.

The first, Let Kids Be Kids, is launching an initiative to postpone Child Gender Reassignment Procedures in the State of Colorado until the age of 18. Currently, 22 states in the nation ban so-called ‘gender affirming care’ for minors1 – Colorado isn’t one of them. In fact, families from these states are migrating to Colorado to obtain such procedures for their minor children.2

The second, Protect Kids Colorado, is launching two initiatives. The first is a Parental Rights measure aimed at upholding the rights of parents and denying the overreach of governmental agencies who claim to know what is best for children. The second seeks to ensure that only girls compete in girls’ sports.

I, for one, would never have believed these commonsense initiatives would be needed in our state, but as I said above, we are living in different times.

Please go to these two websites (linked above) and consider supporting these grassroots efforts to protect the children of Colorado.
