Defending Life with Love

Mater Filius was founded in Mexico City in 2001 as a non-profit, volunteer based, Catholic Apostolate, created to serve women and their families facing an unplanned pregnancy. Our mission is “defending life with love” and our goal is facilitating generational change. To date, Mater Filius has 22 locations worldwide, with ours being the fourth in the United States.

Our program takes in moms who are determined to deliver and raise their babies. We provide housing and food, emotional and spiritual support, medical assistance, job training, a childcare program, transportation and much more. All of this is offered completely free of charge to the mother in need and she may remain in the home up to 8 months after the birth of her baby. We also provide free childcare for that baby up to age 5, in hopes of getting this mom and her child out of generational poverty.

Our home is located in northeast Colorado Springs, and is completely funded by private donation. Our current needs remain consistent prayer, dedicated volunteers, and ongoing funding for our monthly operating budget. While we have 6-7 paid staff members, the home and program is run almost entirely by a team of 55+ volunteers and we are always looking for more.

Since opening in March 2024, we have served 40 women, with 19 of them staying to have and care for their babies in our home. Here is a short testimonial from one of our recent graduates:

I’ve been here for almost 10 months and in that time, I have earned my high school diploma with a 3.8 GPA, obtained my CNA certification, paid off all my outstanding debt, opened a savings account and quit smoking. My son turned one in this home, learned to walk, talk, make friends and was able to have a safe roof over his head. I had my daughter here and when I came home from the hospital, Mater Filius was welcoming and helpful. I’m now able to pay for my own apartment and purchase a used car for transportation. My family and I cannot thank Mater Filius enough.
